Whilst I was sitting in a European airport waiting for my flight, I read an advert that said: "forget the day-to-day and just think a bit more about you!".

This phrase aroused not just a sense of reassurance in what we do for our customers, but above all a sense of the challenge we face in doing even more and even better at 'thinking about you'.

At a time when the quality and clarity of information is a key part of what makes us 'different', I have reviewed the input provided by those who have visited us and who have commented on our Hotels and Services, based on the questionnaires that have been filled in this covers over 65% of our Guests.

Porto Bay Hotels & Resorts, will soon be undergoing a period of growth, starting with our Boutique Hotel in Lisbon, the Porto Bay Liberdade. We are doing this with great confidence, as the comments our Clients have provided have played a key role in our moving forwards 'thinking a bit more about you'.

CORPORATE PHILOSOPHY

Porto Bay Hotels & Resorts and all the staff endeavour to provide you with the best service and experience in our hotels. We constantly strive to serve our customers and listen to them, thus enabling us to meet their needs and live up to their expectations.

We base the corporate Philosophy of Porto Bay Hotels & Resorts on three pillars: Product, Promotion, People. These three pillars are the foundations of the Porto Bay concept and represent the primary goal of the group.

Who we are

The Porto Bay group is a hotel chain comprising 10 hotels: 7 in Portugal (6 on the island of Madeira and 1 in the Algarve) and 3 in Brazil (Rio de Janeiro, Búzios and São Paulo), which among them have a total of 2,600 beds in the 4-star and 5-star market.

Each hotel has its own unique charm, but they are all similar in quality, as guaranteed by the Porto Bay brand.

A new hotel is currently under construction in the Portuguese capital, Lisbon, and will soon be added to the group.

HISTORY

The Porto Bay Hotels & Resorts was the fruit of an idea: building hotels perfectly adapted to the demands of the market in terms of facilities, services and positioning.

A small group of Madeiran investors grouped together and decided to invest in the hotel business, an area where some already had a background.

2014

By the end of 2014 the group will open its 1st hotel in Lisbon, called the Porto Bay Liberdade. The five-star hotel will have 98 rooms and is located in the heart of the Portuguese capital, near the famous Avenida da Liberdade, on Rua Rosa Araújo.

2012

In 2012, the Porto Bay Group acquired a new hotel on the island of Madeira, the Estalagem Serra Golf, which has been renamed to Porto Bay Serra Golf. The four stars hotel has 21 rooms and is located in Santo da Serra near the golf course. It was refurbished between February & March 2012. The main house dates from 1920 and is classified as a regional heritage.

2009

Acquired by the Porto Bay group in 2009 was a boutique hotel in São Paulo, the financial capital of Latin America. The charming five star L'Hotel Porto Bay São Paulo offers 83 rooms and is situated on Alameda Campinas, 50 meters away from the famous Avenida Paulista.

2008

In March of 2008 further steps were taken in the groups expansion, extending their grasp to mainland Portugal with the opening of the Porto Bay Falésia (formerly a Rio hotel) in Olhos d’Água near Albufeira in the Algarve.

2007

The first step to internationalization arose in January 2007, when the Porto Bay Rio International Hotel situated on the front line of the Copacabana beach in the city of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil was acquired. 117 rooms decorated in the best taste... a range of flavours at La Finestra and a roof-top pool with stunning views over Copacabana beach and Corcovado...

2007

Further internationalization occurred later in 2007 when the Porto Bay Group attained the prize-winning Porto Bay Búzios, in Búzios, a beachside resort town in the state of Rio de Janeiro.

2003

In December of 2003, Porto Bay Hotels & Resorts opened its new resort concept Vila Porto Mare, which integrates three different products (Suite Eden Mar, Porto Mare and The Residence) under a shared space of services and facilities accessible to all guests within the complex. Four restaurants, six bars, an ice-cream parlour, five pools, SPA, sports and children's facilities...The character of each one of these is guaranteed by individual receptions and different room/apartment types.

2000

In 2000, the town centre hotel Porto Santa Maria welcomed its first guests. The design mode of this hotel was to fuse an inner city hotel with a resort concept. 146 rooms, restaurant, bars with terrace, direct access to the promenade, outdoor pool, indoor pool, SPA, gym, parking... all in the heart of the city.

Hotel The Cliff Bay

1994

The Cliff Bay, the 5-star flagship hotel of the Group was inaugurated in 1994, as a result of careful research to fulfill Madeira’s need a for different five star. Classic, sophisticated, gourmet cuisine, direct sea access, views.
The Michelin Guide, has awarded with a star the Il Gallo d'Oro, The Cliff Bay's gourmet restaurant, run by Chef Benoît Sinthon. This is Madeira's first and only star.

1988

The first hotel of the Group – Suite Hotel Eden Mar – was open in 1988 introducing an innovative concept of self-catering spacious suites. The rooms in the first hotel belonging to the Porto Bay Group, Suite Hotel Eden Mar located in Funchal. Pursuing its policy of ongoing renovation and guaranteeing high levels of comfort for its guests, the Porto Bay Group invested approximately two million euros the refurbishment (2009).
