BOAT TRIPS

Go sailing, by caravel or catamaran

If you take a boat trip on the seas that surround the archipelago (Madeira, Porto Santo, Desertas and Selvagens), you are very likely to encounter dolphins, whales, turtles and/or sea lions, and there are already designated feeding areas.

There are about twenty different species of whales, including one of the largest whales in the world - the common whale - which reaches about 20 meters in length as an adult.

Sometimes schools of dolphins, in groups of about 50, swim in front of the boats accompanied by their young. The short-beaked dolphin and bottlenose dolphin are the most common species.

Turtles are also observed regularly, especially on a calm sea, or ‘turtle’ sea as it is commonly referred to locally. They come from the American coast, cross the Atlantic via the Azores, Madeira and Cape Verde, and then return to America.

PortoBay Prestige Club members get special conditions on multiple boat trips.
