Special Safety Measures at Madeira

Special Safety Measures at Madeira

(LAST UPDATED: JUNE 23, 2021)

Madeira island has implemented special safety measures. The measures implemented in Lisbon, Porto and the Algarve do not apply to the island of Madeira.

SARS-CoV-2 test

- Presentation on arrival at Madeira Airport of a SARS-CoV-2 test (PCR) with a negative result, provided that it is carried out within a maximum period of 72 hours prior to boarding, or carrying out, for free, the respective test on arrival at Madeira Airport. The result of this test will be made available within around 12 hours. The Madeira Health Authority recommends that you wait for your test result in confinement in your hotel room. We would like to inform you that our hotels have room service. Please see the menu on the hotel's website.

- Passengers who present a medical document certifying that they are recovered from COVID-19 disease upon disembarkation in Madeira (issued in the last 90 days), or that present a document certifying that they are vaccinated against Covid-19, are not required to do this test. Learn more here.

- Upon leaving Madeira, should there be a need to present a new test when entering the destination country, the expenses for carrying out a rapid antigen test or a PCR screening test for SARS-CoV-2 will be borne by the Regional Government, in the following cases:
• All passengers who have performed a PCR test prior to arrival at the Region’s airports, at their own expense;
• Travellers who are in possession of a medical document certifying that they are recovered from COVID-19 disease upon disembarking in the Autonomous Region of Madeira, or travellers with a document certifying that they have been vaccinated against COVID -19, in accordance with the recommended plan and having respected the activation period of the immune system as provided for in the Summary of Product Characteristics (SmPC);
• Travellers with a medical document certifying that they were vaccinated with only one dose (in two-dose vaccination schemes), and having respected the activation period of the immune system as provided for in the SmPC, in the case of patients who are recovered from SARS-CoV-2 infection for more than 90 days, or who have been diagnosed with the infection after having taken the first dose of the vaccine.
